Music/Secondary Endorsed Teacher: Grand Rapids Adventist Academy is a day academy currently in the process of gaining full NAD approval as a senior academy. Construction will begin this spring on an addition for the secondary to include a state-of-the-art science lab and a large music room. Current enrollment is about 175 (K-12) with 58 in the secondary. Hinsdale Adventist Academy has an opening for a music director in our Preschool - 12th grade school in Hinsdale, Illinois. Duties would include teaching choral, instrumental, and voice lessons and classes with emphasis on continuing to build the band/instrumental program in grades 4 – 12. Large and small group choirs in the secondary as well as the junior high would be part of the music director’s responsibilities as well.
The music department provides special music for local SDA churches and conducts two separate music tours – junior high and high school for churches and schools that are farther away. Class sponsorship, supervision duties, and participation in Student Association activities are also an integral part of the duties of a high school teacher. Hinsdale Adventist Academy is located in a lovely suburban setting 20 miles from the dynamic and vibrant city of Chicago. PRIMARY DUTIES
Responsibilities include leading a 6-member department; overseeing departmental strategic planning, budgeting and personnel; and teaching academic music courses and some applied lessons.
DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC
The department, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, has been a pioneer in music in Adventist higher education with many firsts through the years. It was the first to be accredited by NASM, be a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, to have a comprehensive pipe organ installation, to have a band, and to construct a large comprehensive SDA music facility in the last third of the 20th century. It is housed in the Melvin K. West Fine arts Center, which includes 10 teaching studios, two rehearsal areas, a 300-seat auditorium, music library, and 27 practice rooms. It is equipped with 17 grand and 25 upright pianos, a harpsichord, and four organs. The University Church, which has a 93-rank pipe organ and Bosendorfer Imperial Grand in a sanctuary with a large performance platform and outstanding acoustics, still retains a well-attended "classic" church service which provides a meaningful outlet for music from the department.
Walla Walla University is a Seventh-day Adventist teaching university of approximately 1800 students located in southeastern Washington and is a religiously qualified employer. Faculty and staff are recruited with specific attention to their membership in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
