Wendy Markosky

 

Wendy Markosky is an associate professor of music at Canadian University College in Lacombe, Alberta, Canada, where she teaches organ, theory and related courses. At CUC since 1997, she also serves as organist of the university church.

Markosky completed a B.S. at the University of Ottawa in 1985 and a B.Mus. at Union College in 1990. She completed an M.Mus. in organ performance in 1992 and a DMA in 1999 in organ performance and pedagogy at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Her doctoral research was on the music of Matthias Weckmann, 17th century German composer and organist, and the role of musical rhetorical concepts in composition and performance of that time.

Before attending IU, Markosky had studied organ with Larry Smith, George Ritchie, and Melvin West and harpsichord and continuo with Elisabeth Wright. She studied organ with Marilyn Keiser and harpsichord and carillon while at IU.

While at UC, Markosky was assistant organist of the college church. During the 1995-96 academic year she served as organist of IU’s Beck Chapel, following five years as an associate instructor in the theory department at the IU School of Music. In the summer of 1997, she studied at the International Organ Academy in Goteborg, Sweden, as part of her doctoral research. More recently, she has done research, study, and performance on a number of Baroque era instruments in Germany and France.

Markosky has been organist and choir director at a number of churches, in addition to the previously mentioned positions. She frequently performs in recitals and concerts and gives master classes and workshops in both Canada and the U.S. She has lectured on her doctoral research at Northwestern University and is a participant for the "Traveling Clinician" program of the Royal Canadian College of Organists. Markosky has also served as a faculty member of the American Guild of Organists "Pipe Organ Encounters" program. She was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honor society, while studying in the U.S.
