Sunny Liu

1924 - 1987

Sunny Liu was a well-known tenor soloist in the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the last half of the twentieth century. Born in Kelia, Kauai, in the Hawaiian Islands, Sunny was encouraged to become a gospel singer by one of his elementary school teachers. After graduating from Hawaiian Mission Academy, he attended Walla Walla College where, although he enrolled as a pre-medical student, he prepared for the ministry.

Following graduation in 1948, he eventually served as a minister in the Upper Columbia Conference in the Pacific Northwest. Three years following his ordination to the ministry in 1954, he began work in the New York Conference. He returned to the Pacific Northwest eight years later, where he lived until his death in Portland, Oregon, at age 53.

In his lifetime he was a featured soloist at youth congresses, General Conference Sessions, and camp meetings. He gave numerous concerts in the Northwest, Hawaiian Islands, and Canada, many being presented as benefit programs to help church projects. He was also involved in radio ministry and recorded with Chapel Records.
