Ronald Edwin Cafferky

 

Ronald Cafferky, a physician who has practiced psychiatry for 36 years and resides in the Portland, Oregon, area, is also an accomplished violinist. Throughout his life he has participated in numerous musical activities as an orchestra member, chamber musician, and recitalist.

Cafferky started study on the violin at age five with his mother, Grace Burke Cafferky. Subsequent teachers included Joseph Rosenfeld in Hollywood and George Wargo at Pacific Union College. Others who have served as mentors include Glenn Spring, Jon Robertson, and Clair Hodgkins.

He has played in the first violin section and at times as concertmaster in several orchestras. He played for several years in the Redlands Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Jon Robertson.

Cafferky, who plays on a 1789 Nicola Bergonzi Cremona 1796 violin, played with Jon Robertson and Jeffry Kaatz as a member of the La Mer Trio in the 1990s. He also served as music director and conductor of The Advent Chamber Ensemble in Portland, Oregon, during those years.
