Oliver Edward Nelson, Jr.
Oliver Nelson, a jazz flutist, teacher, and lecturer, is Account Executive at Energy Systems Group in Indianapolis, Indiana. A 1977 B.Mus. Andrews University graduate, he completed a master's degree at Butler University. He has studied with David Baker, Distinguished Professor of Jazz Studies at Indiana University, and Karen Moratz, principal flutist in the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
Nelson has performed with the Smithsonian Masterworks Jazz Orchestra and with many jazz legends, including Benny Golson, James Williams, Grady Tate, Bob Crenshaw, and others. He recorded with banjo great Bela Fleck as part of a tribute to his father, the late great composer, arranger and saxophonist, Oliver Nelson, Sr.
Nelson frequently performs with his jazz quartet and woodwind trio, and in the Combrio Duo, with Donna Clark, a viola performer. He has conducted numerous workshops and clinics. In December 2006, he performed with Angela Brown on her PBS program, A Holiday Homecoming with Angela Brown.
