Kimo Smith

 

Kimo Smith is chair of the music department and Director of the University Studies program. at La Sierra University. An organist, he has been at LSU since 1990. He completed B.Mus. and M.Mus. degrees, magna cum laude, in organ performance at the University of Southern California where he was a student of Ladd Thomas. On both occasions he received the Organ Department Outstanding Achievement Award. He subsequently completed a D.M.A. in organ performance at the University of California at Los Angeles, where he studied with Thomas Harmon. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda.

Smith is a frequent organ soloist, most recently being featured with the Redlands Symphony Orchestra on October 11, 2003. The concert, which celebrated the restoration of the Casavant organ in the Redlands Memorial Chapel, featured Smith in a performance of Samuel Barber's Toccata Festival for Organ and Orchestra and Camille Saint-Saens' Organ Symphony. He is active in chamber music and a frequent accompanist on piano and organ.

Smith has been involved in church music since the age of twelve. He currently serves as organist of the University Church in nearby Loma Linda and is organist at the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood. His wife, Cheryl, is an accomplished choral and keyboard conductor and an active musician. They reside in Loma Linda.
