Julie Boyd Penner
Julie Penner is professor of music at Southern Adventist University, where she serves as Director of Vocal Studies and the women's chorus, Bel Canto. At SAU since 1993, she completed her doctoral degree in vocal performance and pedagogy at the University of Northern Colorado, Greeley, in 2005.
Penner graduated from the University of Idaho with a B.S. in vocal education. She subsequently earned an M.Mus. in vocal performance and literature at Eastman School of Music. She has received a number of awards. In May 1994, she was one of eight vocalists chosen to participate in a weeklong master class with Marilyn Horne in which the music of Rossini and the technigue of bel canto singing were studied.
Penner is a frequent recitalist and sings a repertoire that includes music from the Baroque to the present. She has studied voice with Dorothy Barnes, John Maloy, and Lesley Manring.
