Jeffry Kaatz

 

Jeffry Kaatz, Vice-President for Advancement at La Sierra University, is also a professor of music. Chair of the music department of for ten years, he has more recently served as director of LSU's University Studies, an acclaimed general studies program.

Kaatz completed his undergraduate music studies at Loma Linda University, now La Sierra University, and an M.Mus. and D.M.A. in cello performance at the University of Southern California in 1983 and 1989, respectively. At LLU, he graduated with honors and was chosen Outstanding Senior of the Year. While at USC he was recognized with the Outstanding Chamber Music Performance Award and was named the Outstanding Doctoral Graduate of the Year from the department of strings.

He is active in both orchestral and chamber music and has served as principal cellist and soloist with both the Redlands Symphony and Riverside County Philharmonic orchestras. Kaatz is also cellist in the Taylor String Quartet, resident string quartet at LSU. He resides in Loma Linda with his wife, Karen, and their three children, Brian, Jordan, and Katie.
