Glenn Hawkins

Glenn Hawkins, a trumpet player, is band director at Spring Valley Academy in Ohio, a position he has held since 2007. Hawkins, a 1990 B.Mus.Ed. graduate of Southern Adventist University, taught choir and band for the previous fourteen years at Highland Academy in Tennessee. Prior to that he taught at Gem State Academy in Idaho for two years. While at HA, he completed a master's degree at Shenandoah University in Virginia in 2002.

Hawkins grew up in a musical family. At his parent's insistence he started piano while in third grade and began playing the trumpet in fifth grade, studying with William Cemer. He continued study on the instrument, playing throughout his grade school years and while attending Collegedale Academy. Teachers in those years included Larry Congolesi and Robert Bolton.

Following graduation from CA in 1985, he enrolled as a music major at Southern College of Seventh-day Adventists, now SAU, where he studied with Pat Silver for the next five years. He regards her as a primary mentor in his training and growth as a musician and worked for her during his last two years at Southern College.
