Stephen John Hall
Gail Ann Warman Hall
Gail and Steve Hall are at Spring Valley Academy in Centerville, Ohio, where she is director of vocal/choral activities at the academy, directs the choirs in grades 5-8, and teaches classroom music in grades K-4. Steve serves as Director of Development at the academy.
The Halls began their careers at Cedar Lake Academy (now Great Lakes Academy) in Michigan. They subsequently taught at Pacific Union College and PUC Preparatory and Campion Academy in Colorado before going to Union College, where they taught for the past fourteen years. Prior to going to UC, Gail directed choirs and taught voice and keyboard at each of the other schools. At UC, she was Office Manager and Academic Advisor for the Education Department. She is active as a singer and while at UC worked as a soloist for the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Lincoln and as a free lance vocalist in the area.
Steve has directed bands and led out with numerous ensembles since the beginning of his career. He has also taught conducting, theory, music history and music education at the college level. His work with the band and brass ensembles at UC during a record fourteen-year tenure in band leadership there is particularly noteworthy. When he arrived at UC in 1986, he was faced with the challenge of restoring a program that had been canceled the year before for lack of student interest. From those beginnings he would eventually built a college band program that in 1997-98 included 110 members, the largest in the history of the college.
Aside from the usual regional tours, he took his band and brass groups on national and international trips to Canada, South America, Asia, and Russia. His Brass Union quintet was particularly active, touring extensively and recording two CD’s.
Both of the Halls are 1973 B.Mus.Ed. graduates of Andrews University, with Steve also completing a M.Mus.Ed. at AU in 1980.
