Edrene Malcom, a native of Warwick, Bermuda, graduated from the Bermuda Institute, the Seventh-day secondary school in that country. A talented singer, she won awards in music competitions in Bermuda while attending BI and then sang in choirs at Oakwood College under the direction of Jon Robertson while completing majors in English and Behavioral Science.

Following graduation from OC in 1972, Malcom completed an M.Ed. at Alabama A & M University. She has taught English at OC for over 20 years and is a writing specialist in the school's Center for Academic Advancement. She has sung on numerous occasions in the community and on the campus.
