David Nino

1967 -

David Nino, a pianist, has been directing choirs and bands since 1990. He directed choirs and taught music theory at Adventist colleges in South America and in the Caribbean for ten years before accepting a music position at Greater Miami Adventist Academy in 2001.

Nino was born in Barinas, Venzuela, and raised in Medellin, Colombia. He began study on piano at age seven, taking lessons from his father, an Adventist minister. By seventh grade, he had decided to pursue a career in music, a goal that Lucy Piamonte, his teacher in academy, inspired and encouraged him to pursue. He continued his study in piano at Colombia Adventist University under Rosie Ward and Lise Frank.

When Nino completed a B.A. in music education at CAU in 1990, the school hired him to direct the choir and teach music theory, a position he held for seven years. In 1997, he accepted a position as director of choirs at Northern Caribbean University in Jamaica, where he taught for three years.

Following completion of an MA in music theory at West Texas A&M University in 2001, Nino was hired by Greater Miami Adventist Academy to direct its choirs and band, a position he presently holds. In his time at GMAA, he has served as choir clinician for the Festival of the Arts in the Florida Conference and, in 2007, was director of music at the Inter-American Division Youth Congress. Additionally, Nino collaborates with others in presenting music technology seminars for teachers in the Florida Conference.
